Value-Chain for energy and finance
Hello Everyone,
I think the discussion about value chains for getting financing and energy products linked up is very important and one of the key issues we struggle with. It is a balance between good products, reliable service, enterprises serving rural customers, payment systems, affordable financing, reasonable terms, and what else?
There are many kinks in the chain, and it would be great to dig into what is needed to build and sustain the value chain for energy and finance.
Thanks,
Ellen
At the Center for Financial Inclusion, we have a program called Energy Links that aims to bridge the gap between energy providers and MFIs. And our focus is to help build integrated value chains (for solar lanterns for example) by planning the supply from the production plant to the end-users.
I agree with you completely that having a well-structure financing model between manufacturers, importers, distributors and financiers smoothen the supply chain and allows to reach out to a wider market. It also allows to bring the price of a device down for the end-users. But we are not doing it with concentrated photovoltaic, although I assume implications are similar.
I am quite interested to know if there are companies, ngo's, organizations or institutions who are thinking of introducing concentrated photovoltaic technology at small and medium scale.
There is a vast potential both for CPV system designers and manufacturers as well as financing organizations. We have underlined more than 1,000MW shortage only in one country that is potentially open for renewable energy technology.
A well planned model for financial transaction between system designers, financing institution, importers and end-user can open up an entirely new market for development.
Your thoughts and input are welcomed.
